BSN Solutions was recently contacted on our Facebook page by someone with an important question.
“If the measured amount is documented on a menu, is the number of ounces a recommended/ minimum quantity? If a facility chooses to give more, is that acceptable?”
To which Diane replied:
“The measured amount documented on an ALF menu is the number of ounces that is recommended by the USDA 2010 Guidelines. If the resident requests smaller or larger portions, it is acceptable and encouraged for the facility to honor the resident’s request. This eliminates the residents from being overwhelmed with too much or too little mood at mealtimes.”
